State University. Ph.D. is from the University of Minnesota, 1986, BA and BA Ed from Central Washington
University.
Research focuses on design problem solving toward meeting the needs of consumers. Current projects include
exploring the visual expression and meaning (and resulting issues) embedded in street style and youth culture;
examining the changing nature of masculine style(s); investigating technical issues in garment fit and body
movement; and exploring the many themes of sustainability within fashion processes. Has developed innovative
research methods using electronic media, including a documentary video and web site that explores youth style
and gang identity. Developing image databases as a tool in product development.
Awarded: 2001 Outstanding Designer of the Year, International Textiles and Apparel Association.
