The Finkel Fellowship supports undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Delaware seeking internships in the areas of preservation, conservation, arts administration, collections management, exhibition, research and other services of museums. It can provide about $3,000 per year, which is sufficient for the support of one to two students. It is made possible through the generosity of Peter D. Finkel and Susan R. Finkel, who graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelors degree in 1977 and a master’s degree in 1984. Preference is given to students whose focus is on preservation, conservation, administration, collections management, exhibition, research, and services of museums. Awardees agree to submit a one-page report within one month of completing their internship.
The inaugural Finkel Fellowship was awarded to Spencer Wigmore, a graduate student in the Department of Art History. The award will support his internship in Summer, 2016, at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where he will be working on an exhibition about the use of photography in the work the American painter Thomas Eakins. Learn more about his project here.
The deadline for applications for Summer 2017 support is March 17, 2017. To apply, prepare a one-page statement, a brief budget, and a current CV.
