Summer 2026 CMCS/URP Interdisciplinary Material Culture Research Cohort

In partnership with the Undergraduate Research Program, the Center for Material Culture Studies (CMCS) seeks to support several interdisciplinary projects focused on studying material culture for Summer 2026. The IMCRC is designed to introduce undergraduate students to interdisciplinary research and methodologies in material culture, connect students with research mentors over the summer, and facilitate learning and community-building within an interdisciplinary research cohort (comprising two or more interdisciplinary projects).

Any faculty interested in Material Culture Studies is invited to submit a brief proposal for an interdisciplinary project via the IMCRC proposal form no later than March 11th. In addition to working on their specific projects, the Cohort will convene regularly to share progress on their projects, discuss and learn interdisciplinary methods and skills, and brainstorm solutions to challenges.

Faculty from each project should designate how many Summer Scholars they would like to work with over the summer and should ensure that their prospective students submit their Summer Scholar Application by March 11th. Summer Scholars selected for the IMCRC program will receive a $4000 stipend for the 10-week summer session and present their work at the Summer Symposium on August 13th.

Faculty mentors will receive an honorarium of $500 for their participation in this program.
