Winterthur Brown Bag Talk: Summer Institute Students, September 2016

Winterthur Brown Bag Talk

When: Wednesday, September 21 / 2:00-3:00PM

Where: The Rotunda at Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library

Academic Programs at Winterthur would like to cordially invite you to the first Brown Bag Talk of the year. This will feature our Summer Institute Students sharing their proposals for Digital History Projects. This year during Summer Institute the students were tasked with selecting an entry from a Wilmington Fire Insurance Company Ledger housed in the Downs Collection and extrapolating from that single entry a proposal for a publically facing digital history project that highlights the material world of antebellum Wilmington.  Students not only dug deep into our collections to research their entries—ranging from a Quaker Meeting House to a railroad—but also conducted research at the Delaware Historical Society and other area institutions to uncover the rich history of Wilmington. Students also learned about new technologies, tools, and digital projects at the University of Delaware to spark ideas for their own projects. They have done some amazing work and we hope you can come and hear all about their projects.
