2018-19 Funding Opportunities

The Center for Material Culture Studies is pleased to offer several sources of funding the University of Delaware’s graduate students and faculty pursuing research related to material culture studies. Learn more about each funding opportunity below:

CMCS Undergraduate Summer Scholar
Students receive $4,000 for participating in the program

Application Deadline: March 15

The CMCS Faculty Research Publication Subvention Fund
Up to $1,800 per award to subvent faculty publications
Application Deadline: October 15 and March 15

Collections-Based Seminar or Workshop
Up to $750 awarded per M.A. or PhD student
Application Deadline: March 15

The CMCS Graduate Research Presentation Fund
Up to $1,000 each for up to 8 students to support graduate students presenting original research at a public venue
Application Deadline: October 15 and March 15

The CMCS Graduate Research Publication Subvention Fund
Up to $500 each for up to 4 students to support graduate student publications
Application Deadline: October 15 and March 15

Friends of Rockwood Fund
Up to $1,500 to support a graduate student researching Victorian-era material culture
Application Deadline: October 15 and March 15

Finkel Fund for Undergraduate Students

Finkel Fund for Graduate Students

Up to $3,000 to support undergraduate or graduate students accepted for a material culture related internship in Summer 2019
Application Deadline: March 15

The CMCS Graduate Research Travel Fund
Up to $1,500 each for up to 6 graduate students pursuing research or fieldwork in material culture studies
Application Deadline: October 15 and March 15

In addition to these funding opportunities which require full applications–details for each in respective links–the Center is pleased to offer funding to subsidize field trips with a MC component (involving visits to collections, fieldwork). These awards, up to $500, are reserved for undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Delaware. Awards are on an ad hoc basis and interested parties can send requests to materialculture@udel.edu.

*Please note: Students have one year to complete their proposed work and submit all receipts for reimbursement. Use this requirement to help you determine which deadlines apply to your proposal. In accepting a grant the awardee allows CMCS to use any original materials they submit (such as a report and images) for promotional purposes, which could include posting to the website.
