Oct. 27th: Artist Rose B. Simpson’s Virtual Lecture in the Thing Tank Research Forum

On October 27 at 6 pm, artist Rose B. Simpson will join us to give a virtual lecture, “To What End: The Environmental Impacts of Artmaking.” The Center is delighted to welcome Simpson as the inaugural lecturer in the Thing Tank research forum on ecomaterialism.

Rose B. Simpson is a ceramicist and mixed-media artist who lives and works at Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, and is currently a visiting artist in residence at Philadelphia’s Fabric Workshop and Museum. Simpson’s lecture will reflect on her own relationship to culture (indigenous and otherwise), environmentalism, material and media. A mixed-media sculptor with a focus on materials from ceramics to custom cars, Simpson critically navigates her own involvement in contemporary art culture and extractive capitalistic practices.
